For the past year+ our neighbors (four fields down) have been building a huge new house directly next to their existing large relatively new (~10yo?) house. It seemed strange, until last week when I was finishing up a bike ride and noticed the "old" house was up on wheels, three car garage and all. They were planning on moving the house through the fields, down a steep hill, up the next hill, across several "flat" fields then across the paved road and finally placing it in its new location amongst a bunch of farm buildings. The boys and I have seen houses/buildings moved before on TV but this was our first in person viewing. When I got home from work the house was down in the valley and was moving up the hill. I climbed onto our roof to get a better vantage point.
The house is on the move,
up the hill with a nice tilt to it,
and safely makes it to itsovernight resting spot on the flats.
Once the work had stopped for the day
and the heavy equipment was all shut down,
we brought the boys out to get some pictures
with the house on wheels.

Tanj is still a squirmy little bugger,...
and wants to get down.While,
Uschi is content to check things out,but,
wants a better view of the strange house.

It always seemed strange to me also until I was talking with a friend about it. He informed me that he looked into this as part of his MS thesis on coastal errosion, and the cost was $10,000-$15,000 to move a house. So, I guess, even if it cost them $50,000 it might be worth it,... ? Still strange to me.
