Napping Uschi

On a warm summers day,

Uschi was happily sleeping,

on his window cat tree,

"Hiiii "

"I'm sleepy.

Heat Relief

"What's this? It's making noise."

It has been unusually hot for the past few days (108 degrees F yesterday!) and we have been making sure our furry boys have kept cool. We don't have air conditioning, but our straw-bale house has two foot-thick walls and stays at least 20 degrees cooler inside. That still is pretty warm when the temperature soars, and occasionally the boys do travel out into the kennel to take care of business. When Vladi looked a little overheated, we pointed the fan in his direction, put an ice bag under him, and I rubbed his neck with an ice cube. He loves the attention. We also floated ice in one of the many water bowls...

The ice is crackling and popping so
Vladi can't resist taking a look.

"Mmmm, that's tasty!"

Licking up the condensation.

Vladi mushes his new friend.

"Ooohhhh, this feels good too."

All of this excitement is wearing Vladi out.

Uschi checks out the icewater too.

Vladi's day is getting better and better.

Tonight the temperature plummeted down to the 60s,
so the boys were able to go outside for a walk again,
Les could wear one of her favorite sweaters, and
I could hunt thistles flowering in the heat.

Happy to be back outside!

Fur Color

"What's this?"

(Its an empty box of Les' favorite "Naturtint" haircolor
that just happens to match the boys' golden fur)

"Why did you get me 'fur color?' "

"I'm perfect the way I am."

"But I'll hang on to it in case I need a touch-up."

Heat Wave

We have been having some hot weather,
for the Pacific North West.

Today was over 100F, in the shade.

"I can't believe I just went out there,...."

Tanji goes swimming,...

Uschi finds some bins in the middle
of the room to lounge on.

Its A Tough Life

Vladi struggles,...

In his natural habitat.

It is hard to get comfortable.

He has it rough,...

Poor little guy,...

Wait a minute,...
who else is "struggling" on the couch,...

This is Vladi's space.

New Bike Saddle

I have been having "Lavs-saddle interface issues" this year,
so I've tired many different saddles this year (six so far).
My most recent is a pretty radical design/concept
from ISM (Road version). This one has about 3cm of the
nose cut off and a very large space in the middle.
We will see how this one works.

"What the heck is that,...?"

"What do you think Uschi ?"

"I'm not sure about this,..."

"Interesting design,..."

"This is strange,..."

"It looks like it might work well."

(Update, After a few weeks of using the ISM Road model, I've had none of the issues I was experiencing, saddle sores. This Road model is a noticeably wider at the "nose" than the other saddles I've used (including "womens" specific saddles), and also harder, even though it is pretty padded. I experienced bruising on my sit bones the first week or so, as pressure is directed onto the sit bones, as designed. Once I got over this, I've had no issues since. I had to tilt the nose down a fraction and although it is about 3cm shorter, I had to move it forward a bit so the nose is only about 1.5cm back at the front from my other saddles, i.e. not a full 3cm back. I ride 99.9% of the time in aero,... but when I'm not in aero on this saddle it feels "strange", maybe because of the width??,... but for my needs, so far so good.)
