Kennel Restored

The boy's kennel had been reduced in size,
because we were going to build a room off that
side of the house. We changed our plans, so
their kennel was restored.

Once it was buttoned up, the boys came out
to inspect their new/old kennel and the
finishing up around the outside.

Daaaaaad, can I help?

Vladi is glad to have his big climbing pole back.

Kennel Door Modification

We have mentioned on several occasions that Uschi is a bit "vociferous."

When he starts "Oooostering" at 4am, we eventually get up (snap),
if he is not already on his wheel, he quickly heads to it,
and starts running and continues to Ooooster.

When we get to him he is purring and showing off his wheel,
all happy we are finally up and ready to play, it is kind of sad but
we scoop him up and take him to the kennel where he gets launched.

All is well for a few minutes,
Then he starts pounding on the locked door,
(we've tried putting pillows next to the door, etc)
this is almost worse than Ooooostering.

So, now almost 7 years in,
(I might be a light-Blue (mix of White & Blue) from
The Color Code Hartman Personality Profile)
I decided to modify their kennel door.

Daaaad,... what are you making Meeee?

Ummm, he is doing something to our door.

I used 0.75" plywood to make a slotted holder for
piece of 0.75" plywood to slide into.

Vladi is on the scene to "help"

Anyone want to play?

Completed modification.
The first (inner) 2" wide layer of plywood is
just thicker than the door, the next layer is 1" wide, then the
third (outer) layer is 2".  This creates a 0.75" thick slot.

That tightly holds the 0.75" thick plywood.
Solid, nothing to bang on.

So, he thinks that will work,... Ha!

It has,... so far.

Happy Daylight Savings/Gutter Test Day

We woke this morning to

A pile of feathers at the head of the bed,...
(and a dead bird, we don't know who's gift it was)

Breakfast time!!

I'm sleeping in today,...
(U found a cave in a pile of "clean" towels)

The rain

Started coming down.

The shed stayed dry,... and

Bright,...

The 175ft of gutters, all draining back to a single downspout.

Worked well,...

Refilling the pond in just a few minutes.

Back inside,...

Vladi watches for birdies visiting the kennel.

Occasionally, birds visit the kennel.
The vast majority wisely leave quickly.

In The Gutter II

Today the house's new gutters arrived as a roll of flat aluminum,

Which a complex set of rollers

Turned into seamless gutters of any length.

What is going on out there?

Uschi bravely investigates closer.

The brothers pack together to protect their house.

The gutters are up, along with the
very finicky to install custom flashing.

The guys ended up having to cut the flashing into short
lengths in order to work it up under the metal roofing,
which was screwed down tight right to the edge
of the roof decking. The flashing was the
hardest part of the job.

The four corners are pop-riveted and

Sealed on the inside with silicon.

I also had the guys make a little overhang
for the shed doors.

They used a brake to bend two
eight foot lengths of flashing.

The top will get lapped with trim to seal the top edge.

The shed is looking good.

The overlapping boards are up and silicone sealed,...
they will get a second coat of green to hide the joints
when we get a few dry days in a row.
