Artist Assistance - Angels Visit

Uschi enjoys the latest painting

Currently on our short summer break from classes, we have more time to spend on paintings, and of course playing with the boys. Actually, as far as they are concerned, the two tasks are not mutually exclusive...

As Les sketches, Uschi is busy inspecting the frame I made...

Is this going to be a painting of me???

Tanji shows up to see what all of the excitement is about...

Uschi is not eager to share his little cave.

This painting is going to be Lesley's first original for sale.
It is a loose interpretation of all three
of our boys running at sunset.

First, Les outlines the painting on our prepared wood panel.
Tanj our ultra-runner is in the foreground, with Uschi in
the middle, and Vladi in the background.

Next, background colors are added to get the
color scheme established.

The boys are outlined in a darker color
so they won't be lost under all of the thin layers
(30 or more!) to come.

Rich colors are added to provide depth...

Luminescent color layers add shimmer,

the vibrant glazed layers are done, but

Les decided to add in more colors,
so she put down additional layers
of luminescent acrylics.

This painting will be called "Angels Visit"
after the quote by George Eliot:

"The golden moments in the stream of life rush
past us and we see nothing but sand;
the angels come to visit us,
and we only know them when they are gone."

Now it is time to paint the boys
who will be a pearlescent white, floating like
the little angels they are above the background.

Of course Tanj and Usch will provide cat hairs as needed!

Les, I'm seeing a fish or two in your future painting repertoire! I have dog hairs in my paintings too...just adds to the authenticity. No way around it, they are the best company for a day in the studio. Congrats on your bigs size panel, AND your article in the Bengal mag. Fab!
