"Our" doe is back, maybe the same one from previous years

who has had fawns in our "yard."

But now she is busy eating fruit trees, and

Enjoying the mowed trails.

The humming birds are back too.
But Tanji isn't too interested in hummingbirds.

We don't know who the large wet cat is,
this is our first sighting.

Birdie V

Uschi and I were in the shed when we
heard a commotion by the house,...

I arrived in time to find,...

Vladi leaving the house with a bird in his mouth,...
(Most likely a juvenile Spotted Towhee)

He caught it and then went home with it,...
(We left the door open during our walk to air out the "cat-house")

He wouldn't let it go,...

Until I scruffed his neck,...

It flew away with V in hot pursuit.

It regrouped in a small oak, with an EXCITED V chirping below.

It was off when V started up,...

Leaping into pursuit,...

Zoooooming

Awkwardly bounding through the deep green grass.

Les ran after him,...

Mallards

The other day when we were just getting ready to head off to work
we heard an unfamiliar squawking noise coming from outside. We
looked out to see the bright green head of a male mallard duck.
He just kept on squawking,...

A look out another window,...

Tanji was focused, overlooking the duck,...

Finally, a female mallard flew out of some tall grass
and the two flew towards the "big" pond with the goose dock.

Wow, did you see the ducks!!!

When we got home from work we snuck over to the pond
to see if they were still around,... Nope,... we still have
our fingers crossed that they will take up residence with us.

BAAAAD

These are pictures from 2007 that never got published,...

Tanji spotted a unique bird in the rosemary bush by the house,...

And took off,...

We saw this happening,...

Lesley ran,...

He was so fast, explosive and focused,...
He literally leapt completely over top of the
three foot high and six foot wide bushes,...

and took a bird right out of the air,...
then crashed into the side of the house.
It was amazing,...

Tanji proudly pranced out with a bird,...

Uschi was right there to help,...

Lesley got a hold of him,...
and he dropped the bird,...

Amazingly, as soon as he released it,...
it flew right away apparently uninjured.

On our hundreds of walks, with
birds all around, Tanji has only
gone after birds a few times,...

Eagles On The Lamb

The boys have been kept inside for the past few days,...

We have been telling them that it is too rainy and windy,...

But,... In reality,... we have been trying to get our minds around
what we saw in the neighbors field on the way home the other day,...

A Bald Eagle munching,...

on a dead sheep.

This is exciting,... neither of us have seen a Bald Eagle "in person",...
Of course we did some research, and don't have too much
to worry about with the boys, but,... !!!

Anyway,... we got on our road walking gear (safety vests)
and headed out to get some pictures,...

As we approached, on the road,...

The eagle soared away,... way down the field,... we stood on the road shoulder for many minutes, wondering where the eagle had gone,... then all of a sudden it soared right over our heads and up into a tree,... we watched, and watched,... then it came out of the tree and I got ready to snap pictures of it landing on the sheep,... BUT,...

A second eagle intercepted the first,...

Let the courtship begin,...

Hey, baby,... How you doin'?

Did you see my feathers,...?

Where are you going?

The smaller male kept close,...

Repeatedly, changing course to keep track of the female.

She is making a "run" for it,...

Get back here,...

Obviously a pair, that might be nesting in the area soon.

In fact, I went outside a little while after we got home
and one of the eagles soared around our oak grove and
down along the adjacent road,...

Do those big birdies want to be my friends?
