Return Of The Roaches

The roaches are back home to move into their permanent tank.

Uschi is trying to act disinterested.

But we know better.

Vladi is very happy his "friends" are back.

Vladi's fur is all plushed up and he is meowing at the roaches.

What? No one else will play with me.

After spending a few weeks in the classroom in small observation
tanks, all six roaches are moving to their larger home.

There was a bit of hissing, but they already seem happier.

Sorry Vladi, they're heading back to school!

Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches

We are studying Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches in class next week,
and brought them home to set up their tanks. They came packaged
in a secure container, but you could hear their little feet moving inside...

Did you hear that?

Did you bring me friends? I really, really need some friends.

Helloooooooooo, anybody in there?

We had set up two small tanks with lots of food and hiding spots.

There they are, almost two inches long (can grow to three),
and a lot stronger and faster than advertised.
There was a bit of hissing (roaches), squealing (Les),
and fur fluffing (all 3 boys), but we got them safely in the tanks

The cockroaches scurried under the leaf litter,
but you could still hear their feet moving around.

Did you see that? That was AWESOME!

They have stripes just like meeeeee!

You want to see the roaches? What's the secret password?

The boys are a little too interested, luckily we have lids...

Uschi is mesmerized...

...and so is Tanji.

But its Vladi who really likes the roaches...

Hours later, Vladi is still checking on his new friends
who have calmed down and come out of their hiding spots.

We decided to hide the tanks in the sink cabinet
so Vladi doesn't decide to "free" his buddies overnight.

High Water

Over the past few days we have gotten a lot of rain, which
has resulted in some flooding, road closures, and OSU closing.

No worries, we flood in Oregon, and we are barely at flood stage.

Hey Vladi do you want to go play in the puddles? --- No,...

How about you Tanji,... do you want to go out? -- No

Ohhhh, don't even ask me,...

So, Lesley and I headed out.

Just down the road,... to where we knew things would be wet,...

Out there by the second set of cars, the water is flowing
across the road,... we ventured out (attempting to get to FedEx)
but the water was deeper and faster than we felt comfortable
with and didn't want to qualify for a Darwin Award so we retreated,...

Back across the flooding Mary's river,...

Past our neighbor's flooded bottom field,
(we are up above the little ridge) so it would
take a lot for flood waters to get to us,...
but we do have standing water in the "yard" due to
being flat and on a "nice" clay soil.

What did you get me when you were out?,...

Funny you should ask,...

We got you a "Baby-Cat-Cake",....
that is what we call this cake,...

A frozen pizza in the oven and a "play-day",...
what a good way to spend a rainy day.

then literally turned around and this was going on,...
We have never seen such a display.

Uschi's Royal Wedding

In honor of the royal wedding we recorded all
six hours and later in the day settled in with
Guinness beer and cake to watch the show.
(Yes we apparently have that kind of time.)

What we didn't count on was Uschi's excitement...

Singing steadily while the guests are arriving at Westminster Abbey.

Its the Queen's car arriving in the background,
and King Uschi in the foreground.

We're watching the wedding party arrive,
Uschi thinks we're watching him.

Katherine, the Duchess of Cambridge to be, (pre-marriage)
arrives at the church, and Uschi-Swirl the Marble of the Marsh
is trying to get our attention.

Look at me, Look at me, Look at me!

Luckily Uschi fell sound asleep so we could
enjoy the rest of the proceedings.
