Chattering Then Flattened

I was sitting in the middle of a mowed trail,
watching Tanji chatter at birds.

T was a ways away
so I was all the way zoomed in, 300mm.

Two little blackbirds were in Tanji's sights.

He yelled at them,

while flicking his tail wildly back and forth.

Then his attention shifted,

and he flattened.

I should have known,...

Uschi had just come into his sights,

I should have zoomed the lens out quicker

to catch the action,...

Uschi flattened Tanji

and took off up the trail.

Fancy Feast Case

Fancy Feast by-the-case

Once-upon-a-time the boys loved their gourmet wet cat foods; Evo, Nutro, Wellness - if it was expensive and from a specialty cat store, they wanted it. Then they slowly lost interest in these foods preferring only dry foods (Royal Canin and Natural Balance). When they lost quite a bit of weight over the winter, we decided to try wet/canned food from the supermarket, and the Fancy Feast Frenzy began. It doesn't matter what the flavor is, if its Fancy Feast, it disappears. They still only share one little can between them each day (eating mostly dry food), but both will sit like real gentlemen waiting for their dishes. We recently discovered that Fancy Feast comes in cases ...

Someone needs to open this. NOW !!

The boys help us unpack the case.

You can tell from their faces
that this is serious business.

Uschi waits patiently for his beef with gravy.

Faces Of Uschi

I'm ready for my close-up now.
(Is that a little billy-goat beard??)

Every once in a while we have to pay homage to gorgeous Uschi (just ask him!). He is the cat of a thousand faces and is willing to pose for the camera anytime, anywhere. Even as a little kitten he seemed to love the camera.

Uschi stares into the setting sun,
ears back in the high winds.

"Oooohhh, is it picture time?"

"You better get the other side too!"

Snakes Stay Outside, TANJI !

Sure she's pretty, but we'd rather
not have her as a house guest.

The other morning I was out biking and Les woke to hear a knocking on the cat door. Tanj was out in the kennel butting his head repeatedly against the door for some reason. After making sure the cat flap was unlocked, Les opened the people door to find Tanj standing on the doorstep with a garter snake in his mouth. He was trying to figure out how to get the snake through the cat door and into the house. A little gift for the parents. Thanks Tanji,...

As I was walking into the house, Les and the snake were coming out. The snake was cold and not moving, but appeared to be O.K. Les released the snake in a patch of lupines. After it warmed up, it slithered away. Well, at least Tanji is not hurting his "prey" as much as he used to, but we are expecting more exciting surprises in the future.

Tanj prances proudly by
as Les collects her "gift"

Uschi wants to see what all
of the excitement is about.

We check the snake, and there
are only small Tanj tooth marks.

A quiet place to warm up.

Let Them Eat Cake

Congratulations Nate & Kara
who are getting married this morning on the shores
of Coeur d'Alene Lake, ID, after both completed the
Ironman Coeur d’Alene yesterday!

Regular visitors to this blog probably know we get a lot of cakes, for any possible holiday, and sometimes just to get a cake. The boys haven't shown much interest in the parade of cakes (yet!). Yesterday we had birthday cake...

Wow, a little Raspberry cake,
let's see what the boys think.

Uschi takes a sniff, licks his chops,
and then takes off.

Now its Tanji's turn,
he is a little cautious (not a big fan of fruit)
but still...

He takes a sniff...

and maybe a little lick.
Yummy, raspberry butter frosting!

Now its our turn! Mmmmmmmm.

Is It Our Birthday?

Its my birthday, but of course that means
the boys think that it is their birthday:
Boxes to open, ribbons to chase, and gifts to sniff.

Time to inspect the boxes...

Uschi begins "unwrapping" the gifts.

There are cards to open...

Dad, that's your color, it looks good on you,...
No really.

This musical card is kind of scary....
(played Henry Mancini's Pink Panther Theme)

Funny Dad, draping me in ribbon!

Another package gets unwrapped...

Woooo Hooo, a ribbon!

Where did it go?

Tanj is busy chewing on a box...

Yummy!

Yeah, a ribbon AND a box!

Happy Tanj.

Better open another package for the boys!

Do they look like me?

Where are the rest of MYyyy gifts???

This must be for me...

This book says "Sons," it must be for me too!

Now its time to nap with all of my gifts.
