Fall Clean-Up

New Large Cat Door
Day and night the boys smash at high speed in and out of the house/kennel through their cat door. They hit the door so hard and often that last year they snapped the frame that holds the flap. I was able to mend it (several times) with super-glue, but eventually it was beyond repair. All summer long we've had an open door (hole) to the kennel, luckily we don't have many mosquitoes. The boys have loved the hole in the door to silently jump through. However, cooler weather is coming so it was time to find a new cat door.Tanjiro & Uschi each had a $10 PetSmart gift-card from several years ago, so I searched their website for a door. I found what looked like a good one with a four way locking mechanism, so we can lock the boys in the kennel when they (Uschi) get a little "loud." I also decided to go larger than our previous door.
In case you are wondering why...
Someone is extra-fluffy. Enough said.I needed to remove the door to cut a larger hole...
This was big fun for the boys,
Vladi tried to jump through the cat "door."
The boys are very helpful as usual...

After installing the cat door,
its time to see how it works...
If a new box, toy, or cat food enters the house,
Uschi is the first on the scene. If it is something
that is unusual or potentially scary...
Tanji ("Protector-T") is the first to inspect make sure it is O.K.
Les pushed once on the door flap to show Tanj.
After a few pats,...
... he went right through.
Vladi was already out in the kennel,
so Tanji showed him how to push the door.
My turn!
I think the door is petting me!
The spotted boys started playing with the door.
Finally Uschi arrives to see the new door.

Mouse House: Part II
Yesterday we left off with Les and Tanjihappily playing with the "Mouse House."
However someone was "inch-worming" his way over...
Streeeeeetch, wiggle-wiggle;Streeeeeetch, wiggle...
... wiggle.
"Oooh, what's this?"
"Looks yummy..."
Usch-zilla gives a big roar and
Pounces!Les yells "Uschi, stop that right now!!"
I was just looking...
Uschi goes back to quietly wiggling around,but a few minutes later...
He's dragging Elly mouse away by the tail."Uschi, let go of that right now!"
How'd that get in my mouth?
Uschi spits out the tail and looks disinterested,

Mouse House: Part I
Les' Mom brought out a few toys that had been stored away 30+ years ago. One of these toys was Les' old "Mouse House," or officially "Elly and Andy Baby Mouse Twins Tree House," for those in the know. It is decorated metal and plastic, in pretty good shape despite lots of play, and the box still has the $4.88 price tag. As usual Uschi was first on the scene, and he was so eager to play with the box, he jumped inside before it was unpacked...
LEAP!That was actually a bad idea, as the box
immediately tipped over with Uschi and the toy inside,
"Let me out!"All of the commotion attracts Tanji,
who has to take his turn...
Sitting in the box.
Vladi arrives last (as usual) and wants in too.
Uschi looks confused (or hungry).
"Doesn't anybody want to play with me?"
Uschi attacks the little spot, and those two fight it out for the box.Meanwhile, Les is setting up the Mouse House...
Two stories, with a basket-elevator, swing,balcony, drawer-bed, and even cheese: very ritzy!
(and this explains a lot, like the dozens of pet rats, pre-Bengal)
Of course Tanji is helping...
"This needs to move over here some more."
Yes Tanji, VERY helpful.
All seems well with the mouse house,but something is looming nearby,
a coiled-up beast of destruction and doom...
Its Uschi-zilla!
