Well, the cat and dog food recalls are not over, and we are really bummed to find out that one of the foods we switched to (Natural Balance Venison & Green Pea Dry Food) has been added to the list of recalled foods. According to news stories, Natural Balance recently started adding a rice protein concentrate to this food, which apparently has also been found to be contaminated with melamine. Luckily, we were trying a mix of foods with the boys since the Menu foods recall , but wouldn't you know, their new favorite food is the recalled Venison & Green Pea dry. Just last night they eagerly finished a whole bowl full. Well, the boys have been energetic lately, so hopefully they have not been negatively impacted by this food. Both of us, however, feel a little sickened right now that we switched from one potentially harmful food to another.
We are still feeding Royal Canin dry food as they have not been part of the recalls. We've been mixing Royal Canin older kitten and active foods, since we are trying to get the boys to add back the weight they lost this winter when we were feeding (and they were barely eating) the now-recalled Nutro cuts-and-gravy packets. The boys have eaten one formulation or another of Royal Canin dry food their whole lives, and they seem to like it just fine. We are also trying to get them interested in various brands of canned foods and Nature's Variety dry and frozen foods, so we are not just feeding them one type of food in case more brands have problems than we realize. Hopefully this will be the end of the foods that need to be recalled.

I keep wondering when this pet food nightmare will end! Now our good friend Lilly Lu is very sick, and they think it is because of the foods. I am sad.
